Company History

Antrim Hills commenced production in 1989 being the first Northern Ireland company to bottle spring water. After producing for 5 years, a new larger premises was opened in 1994 to meet the increased demand. During the planning close association was kept with Loughry College of Food Technology to set up a state of the art production facility. It was then possible to produce flavoured drinks. The range has since been expanded to include, sports drinks, fruit juice drinks, children's drinks and a stimulation drink. Antrim Hills also supplies a range of free standing water coolers.

Antrim Hills Spring Water rises from a natural spring deep in the Irish Hill near to the picturesque village of Straid in Co. Antrim. It is an area of great beauty not polluted by industry.

The spring has an interesting history providing a much needed supply of drinking water for many years. The older people in the district are able to tell us that in the 19th century and early 20th century water cress was harvested from the unshaded pools of flowing clean water coming from the spring (Water Cress will only grow in pure water). From here it was transported to Belfast where it was sold in the markets.

The Spring has a very prolific flow, and when other springs in the surrounding area would dry up, this spring provided a continual supply. So much so that in the 1800’s two local farmers went to court over the diversion of the flow from the spring, as each felt it should flow through their own land. After many court cases they agreed to cut a stone with two sloping sides so that each farmer’s land got an equal amount. The spring has still abundant flow, providing more than an ample supply for our requirements.
